Recently, while surfing through all that craft-inspirational-DIY web sites and blogs I've found sweet penguin ornament made of light bulb. So I said to myself, why not recycle all that used light-bulbs instead of throwing them away and decorate my Christmas tree with some unique ornaments.
Below is my step by step process for these such cool decorations.
Some of the materials you'll need:
- used light-bulbs
- acrylic paint
- brushes (I forgot to picture them) :)
- ribbon of your choice
- scissors
- liquid glue
- some sharp tool
- fabric and cotton for the hats
First, with a sharp tool drill a hole into the base of the light-bulb to make a space for snatching the ribbon.
It's more practical to do this before painting cause you'll be able to hang them on a safe place while they are drying and more important it is preventing damaging, erasing or scratching the final outcome. ;)
When the ribbon is bounded, you can put the node into the hole previously made on the base of the light-bulb to get nice hanging piece.
Although, I started to hang them after first layer of painting, I've came up with another way to hold them still while drying. Take a toilet paper roll and stuck the light-bulb base into... that's it... now you can paint further without making mess with hands on parts already painted.
The painting is the most interesting and creative part. You can paint whatever you like. It's up to you from now on...
On this link you can find more light-bulbs ideas with different materials and techniques or just look around you and find your inspiration.
I've painted The Skeleton Jack and Sally from the Tim Burton's movie The nightmare before Christmas, which is one of my favorite animated movies. The sweet minion from Despicable me and a penguin.
And they lived happily ever after on my Christmas tree.
